The trend of wearing silver hair extensions and dyeing it too, has been one of the hottest hair trends in 2015. It seems that this trend is not dying yet, and will continue next year. We can’t wait to see how this trend will evolve in 2016. We have here gathered some of the ways you can get and wear that silver hair yourself. We hope you enjoy!

  1. Dye your own hair
Weather your hair is short or long, curly or straight, it is possible to dye it. Here we explain step by step how you DIY.Step one: First of all it is important that your hair was either never dyed, or that you do not dye your hair for 6 months prior to dying your hair silver/gray.

Step two: You already know it’s coming, don’t you.. You will have to use bleach on your hair. Therefor, it is important to get a deep conditioning treatment at least a week prior to bleaching. We reccoment this one from Redken, if you are doing it at home. It is a bit pricey, but I will personally rather pay a bit more to be sure I am getting a well known product that protects my hair, than saving those few bucks and getting a product that won’t do the job anyway. Otherwise you can go to your local hair salon.

Step 3: It is now time to bleach your hair. It is advisable to not wash your hair for around 3 days prior to the bleaching. That will make the natural oils work to your advantage. They will protect your scalp from the chemicals in the bleach. Do not use the cheapest bleach kit out there. It can be very damaging to your hair, so be sure to find a well known one. When you do go and look for one, make sure it is vol. 40. We’ve found a kit for you that you can safely use from L’OREAL. Be aware that no matter how good the product is, this will still harm your hair, and you have to be prepared to loose a bit of length. Not a lot if your hair is already healthy, but no matter what you will have to get a haircut afterwords. Another last thing when you bleach your hair, is that you can choose to leave your roots out of it. Like you can see in the picture, she did not dye her hair all the way to the scalp. This gives a cool look too, and help you protect your scalp.

Step 4: Now your hair is bleached, and you have very light blond hair, you’ve also got a haircut to get rit of the damaged edges. Wait a week before you dye your hair in the silver tone you would like, to give your hair a bit of rest after the bleaching. It can indeed also be hard to find the right tone and the right brand. The one from Pravana works really well, it should be so permanent that you won’t have to dye it again for over 6 weeks. It is actually the only one we can truly recommend with a good feeling, since a lot of the other ones seems to have problems of either lasting or working at all.

Now you have your gray/silver hair, and we hope you got great results! If you have a picture, we would love to see your experience and results.

  2. Get a few simple highlights
If you don’t feel like going all in with this color, there is still a way. If you are planning on braiding up your hair, you can simply buy some extension hair in the silver tone you’ed like and incorporate them in for instance one side like you see on the picture.
  3. Loose extensions
This way works really well if you have short hair. The extensions are attached piece by piece instead of getting a full weave. For this look we recommend using real human hair to make it last as long as possible, and to give you the freedom of styling it with heat.  If you can find it, buy the U-tip extensions. It is the best way to get the same look in the picture.
  4. Braid it up
Another way of not dying your own hair, is to braid it up in box braids with gray/silver braiding hair. It is a cool look, and it is only temporary. You can find the hair here.
  5. Faux locks
Again a temporary way of doing it. Silver faux locks. This is a double trend, since the faux locks are really popular these days. As a matter of fact, the faux locks are such a good choice when choosing your next protective style. Is looks nice, and it is so low in maintenance. Get the gray marley hair here.Thank you guys for reading, we hope you have decided by now if this trend is something you would like to try out. Love from black hair stylez.
